Tanah Lot


Tanah lot is one of the popular places in Bali. In Balinese language Tanah Lot means "Land in the Middle of the sea”. Tanah lot is also called Tanah Let which means ancient land and also Tanah Lod, which means the land to the south. The Tanah Lot temple, simple in its construction, is dramatic in its ocean-front location and is one of the main temples in the worship of Balinese gods.
Tanah Lot is said to be the work of the 15th century priest Nirartha. The story goes that during his travels along the south coast he saw the rock-island with beautiful setting and rested. Some fishermen saw him, and bought him gifts. Nirartha then spent the night on the little island. Later he spoke to the fishermen and told them to build a shrine on the rock for he felt it to be a holy place to worship the Balinese sea gods.
Tanah Lot is located in sub-province of Tabanan, precisely in countryside of Beraban, district of Kediri, sub-province of Tabanan. Tanah Lot tourist attraction visited by one million of domestic and foreign tourist every year, so that Tanah Lot becoming one of the tourism icon in Bali. All of that thing because of Tanah Lot have different characteristic with the other, that is, looks like a floating one if the tide is high but when tide is low, people can walk to the temple. Because of erosion many caves, which are inhabited by sea snakes, are formed. People cannot disturb these snakes because according to the belief, they belong to the God in the temple.

Many events in Tanah Lot, like religious ceremony. This is event calendar on June, the month when we got tour program in Bali.
1.      June 4th.
Purnama Sadha, full moon in Bali, it always be a special day for ceremonies and festivities.
2.      June 5th.
Anggara Kasih Dukut,   also known as Anggara Kliwon, is a reocccuring, auspicious cleansing day for the mind of the individual family members and for the physical world and all creatures that inhabit it.
3.      June 10th.
Kajeng Kliwon Pemelastali,  is a reoccurring auspicious day for cleansing the mind and the direct environment of the house compound of negativity.
4.      June 16th.
Saraswati, Balinese in Tanah Lot celebrates the Saraswati holiday, a sacred day for knowledge. Every school and school temples in Tanah Lot is decorated lavishly, offices are also decorated the shrines that is usually located on the northeast corner of the offices complex.
5.      June 17th.
Banyu Pinaruh,  The day after Saraswati Day is Banyu Pinaruh day. "Banyu" means water and "Pinaruh" mean wisdom. In other words, we must have wisdom which always flows like water and which is useful for human kind.
6.      June 17th.
Isra Mi'raj, Today across the archipelago of Indonesia is a Muslim holiday to commemorate the ‘Enlightenment Day’ of the Prophet Mohammed. In the Islamic tradition, the Isra and Mi’raj are the two parts of a journey that Muhammad took in one night of the year 1 BH (621 CE).
7.      June 18th.
Soma Ribek, Two days after Saraswati Day, on Soma (or Monday), Pon, Wuku Sinta, is Soma Ribek day.
8.      June 19th.
Sabuh Mas, Three days after Saraswati Day, on Anggara (or Tuesday), Wage, Wuku Sinta, is Sabuh Mas day.
9.      June 19th.
Tilem Sadha,  On this day extra offerings are made around the family compound, as well as some offerings placed on the ground at the entrance to the house compound.
10.  June 20th.
Pagerwesi,  Four days after Saraswati Day, on Buda (or Wednesday), Kliwon, Wuku Sinta, is Pagerwesi day.
11.  June 25th.
12.  Kajeng Kliwon Enyitan, Kajeng Kliwon is the day that has these two influences at the same time.
13.  June 30th.
Tumpek Landep,  Taking place on the Saturday of Landep in the second week of the Pakuwon, Tumpek Landep is a day of offerings to the weapons of war in Bali.
